Dirt Piles & Slag

"...back in the day, the entire valley used to have its own unique
cachet... ...weird colored random piles scattered here and there...
...often contrasted by fluffy low-lying smoke... ...it made for a
certain je ne sais quoi... ...then, sometime in the '70s or early
'80s, they started the clean-up... ...so they hired students, planted
grass on the slag piles and started printing tourist brochures...
...ruined the whole dang thing..."

Richmond Fossil

Richmond Fossil - a painter's tribute to 1 billion gallons of toxic coal sludge spewn into the environment on Dec. 22 08.

The unique quality of these paintings is that they may address a sombre topic, however they are visually compelling and possess a vitality that indeed celebrates the natural wonders of our planet.
